DSL-AC56U INFO

Dimitris Tsartsalis

New Around Here
For starters I would like to say hello to everybody in this forum.
I have a DSL-AC56U router and I cannot find any info about it. It is usually mismatched with the RT-AC56U witch to my understanding is a completely different router.
I cannot find any firmware other than the one provided by Asus with latest one being 1.1.0.4.
Anyway I have a lot of problems with this device.

First of all I have a Synology DS215j witch is based a lot for Upnp to work correctly. I have some services installed on it that need to be managed remotely. The DSL-AC56U even though is found by synology to be complaint, works for a while and then all ports are blocked. Never had this problem with a VDSL Technicolor that I used to work with till now. The VPN worked after manual search about GRE protocol that had to be opened through the router.
Ahhh and my synology even though it is connect to etherport it shows up as wireless 5Ghz !!!!.
Anyway I need to know weather there is some firmware that could give me more options over it.

All in ones are usually good for not much of anything. As you have found out.

Can you switch the radio's off, put the modem side into bridge mode and buy a 'real' RT-AC56U or higher that can run RMerlin firmware (or a fork thereof)?

The above gives an example of what you should expect from the base hardware an RT-AC56U has (except for external and an additional third antennae, same hardware as an RT-AC68U).

Keep in mind that the latest revisions of the RT-AC68U are even better, the C1 revision offers a higher clocked processor and better ancillary circuitry too.

But looking for firmware for your all in one modem / router combo will be a trip best avoided.
