DSL Modem and Brume (GL-MV1000) - then what?

New Around Here
I am redoing my home network and since my old router is no longer supported and was getting pathetic openVPN speeds comparing to my naked connection, I decided to try out Brume and Wireguard. And holy smokes, it's getting pretty much 100% of what my ISP can give me here. It also runs Adguard Home without a sweat. I guess it's OK as a router itself, but it has fairly limited features, so I would like to insert a wired router into the mix and also couple 8-port switches.

My current goal is to have something like this:
Existing modem -> Existing Brume -> New wired router -> New switch #1 -> New Switch #2 -> Existing wireless AP
or
Existing modem -> Existing Brume -> New wired router with at least 8 ports -> New Switch -> Existing wireless AP

Requirements:
- I want to be able to use a time schedule on the switch port to schedule the AP shutdown at night. It's an older Picostation with a separate POE injector. If the switch has POE capability, I could ditch the injector.
- I don't use Windows, so to my knowledge some of the MikroTik routers and switches would be hard to manage (Winbox?)
- Main switch or router/switch combo will be set up in the "closet" and needs 8-16 ports. 2nd switch will be a desktop unit (or mounted under the desk) and needs 8 ports.
- I value my privacy - any updates on Ubiquity data collection? (I looked at their Unifi and Edge lines of routers and switches - still not sure if they allow for port time scheduling)

I recall a similar request from another poster a while back and he settled down on using a smart AC plug in switch (I guess even a mechanical timer would work) with his POE injector for the AP and it worked. I guess if push comes to shove, it could be an option.

Thank you for your input.

Have I maybe posted it in the wrong forum?

Looking for a simple wired router and switch recommendation with posted requirements.

well, how about giving us some specific choices of equipment and configurations and those familiar with that equipment can comment.
A simple wired router and switch covers everything from consumer gear on up.
The idea of a simple timer to turn the AP off is probably the simplist.
Beyond that, pick a brand. they all mostly work. SMB grade is more likely to be reliable and less troublesome, but you could probably use a DLink device and meet the basic need.

I have looked at Unifi and Edge routers and switches as well as MikroTik. Also, more mainstream brands like Netgear, Zyxel and TP-Link, but not in great depth.

UDM Pro acting as both the router and the main switch paired with UniFi Switch Lite 8 PoE (2nd switch) would work great, but I don't have $500 laying around right now and I can't find anything about their port scheduling.

Probably similar combination (router/switch combo + switch) or standalone (router + switch + switch) could be found in Edgemax line, at similar total price. I explored their UNMS demo and can't find the port scheduling.

MikroTik seems to be most appealing price wise, but again, I don't know if it does port scheduling and if I can manage it outside of Windows.
The 2 setups I have looked at were:
1. RB4011iGS+RM router/switch (or RB3011UiAS-RM) paired with CSS610-8G-2S+IN switch
2. hEX S router paired with 2x CSS610-8G-2S+IN switches

I understand that pretty much anything would work, including unmanaged switches, if I decide to use an AC smart switch to power the POE injector for the wireless AP.
The reason for this thread is that I would like to avoid it.

So question stands - what switch (assuming POE switch, otherwise the POE injector would remained powered) would allow for port scheduling?
And would it tie nicely with the router (assuming the same brand), maybe like in the Unifi environment?
And can it be web or remote managed outside of the Windows system or software? (so does it mean no Mikrotik and it's RouterOS?)

DLink has very mixed reviews, so I would like to stay away from that brand.
If it's a more expensive mainstream brand that provides some kind of "lifetime warranty", it better be a good one that provides prepaid shipping and decent customer service.
And if it's a managed switch, hopefully the GUI is good and intuitive.
