ecobee has announced the ecobee3 lite smart Wi-Fi thermostat, priced at $169 - $80 cheaper than the ecobee3.

The lite shares several features with the older model, including Smart Recovery for quick and automatic adjustments; compatibility with other home automation solutions including Amazon Echo, Apple Home Kit, and IFTTT; Fan Dissipation to extend the cooling and dehumidification of a room; AC Overcooling to help dehumidify airspace; and Home IQ to help show the amount of energy conserved over time.

Items and features the ecobee3 lite will not come with include the external sensor normally packaged with the standard $249 ecobee3.

ecobee3 features excluded from the ecobee3 lite include Smart Home/Away for those times you to stay home longer than usual, Free Cooling automation that decides when a home should use outside air vs air conditioning, optional humidity functions, and Follow Me motion detection.

Available soon for both Apple and Android devices, customers will also be able to manage the ecobee3 lite using the new my ecobee app, giving ecobee owners remote control, video capability and installation support.

Starting on October 31st, ecobee3 lite will be available at Home Depot, BestBuy, Amazon, and the ecobee.com stores.
