FYI:
A 'basket full' of Entware updates have appeared.

I updated and had some difficulties getting everything to work afterward. [Yes .. I know the usual :)]

Just a heads up to ensure you have a good backup as it will save you time IF you need to recover !!!

I did and it has saved me time & pain ... I will update in a more controlled manner when I have time to 'play' !!!

Many many thanks for BACKUPMON - (AMTM) - Github - Dev: @Viktor Jaep.
Yet again saves the day !!!

@Twiglets

Can you list the difficulties you had for the "enquiring minds" out there ...

Thanks in advance!

Strange. I'm not seeing any entware updates. @Twiglets when was the last time you checked for updates, previous to this? 🤔

There are definitely a whole slew of new updates. The only glitch I found so far after installing was the unbound didn't start -- reinstalling over itself fixed the issue.

😱

Had to do the usual reinstall of Unbound to get things working again after the Entware updates.

Ah - the updates are currently only available to me on
Code:
mirrors.cernet.edu.cn/entware
The other two servers have nothing yet.

Hi! Netfolks,

Running entware on my old RT-AC3200 router and noticed that it use the 2.6 entware version instead of 3.2
How can I force it to upgrade ?

Thanks in advance

ASUS RT-AC3200 HW: armv7l Kernel: 2.6.36.4 FW: 384.13_10 amtm 5. 1
This router runs Entware armv7sf-k2.6
Server in use: bin.entware.net
I also try it with the 2 other servers, same result ;-(

# opkg update ; opkg upgrade ; opkg upgrade ; opkg update ;
Downloading https://bin.entware.net/armv7sf-k2.6/Packages.gz
Downloading https://bin.entware.net/armv7sf-k2.6/Packages.gz

Please note that https://bin.entware.net/armv7sf-k3.2/Packages.gz exists

Wasn't entware 2.6 deprecated? As in no longer maintained?

Many thanks for your reply.

Indeed, it seems that 2.6 is very old.
I would like to upgrade to a newer version but amtm seems to not detect the newer version and only offers the old one !

Here is the content of https : //entware.diversion.ch/
Index of /

armv7sf-k3.2/ 09-Aug-2024 17:09 -

I was hoping that amtm + "ep manage Entware packages"
was able to detect the existence of all available Entware versions for my armv7sf platform

Here is the current content of my current /opt/etc/opkg.conf file
src/gz entware https://bin.entware.net/armv7sf-k2.6
dest root /
dest ram /opt/tmp
lists_dir ext /opt/var/opkg-lists
option tmp_dir /opt/tmp
arch all 100
arch armv7-2.6 160

The usual:

unbound did not work, even though no errors where apparent in the log.
I use Diversion, Skynet, dnscrypt and unbound (knitted together with lots of hackery :) ]
(DNS is via dnsmasq calling unbound calling dnscrypt which uses dnscrypt relays !!!???)
Nothing was working and skynet was hanging doing something very busy.
Tried a full reboot of the router to ensure everything started in the correct order BUT still did not work.
As I have 'hacked about' some of the scripts etc it is MY problem and NOT a fault with any of the addons, for clarity :)

I restored via BM and will update the entware binaries in a more controlled manner.
i.e. slowly update one by one and ensure everything keeps working.

I know that there are always reports of people having issues with unbound being updated etc and thought to remind people to have a good backup just in case.

Don't expect it will be a major problem. [Famous last words !!!]

[Edit]
All working OK !!!
Found a typo in a script I had changed :(
Must learn too typ one of these daze !!!

You can't. Your router uses kernel 2.6. You cannot run Entware packages that are compiled for kernel 3.2. The clue is in the name, k2.6 vs. k3.2.

The official Entware repository for k2.6 (bin.entware.net/armv7sf-k2.6) is no longer being updated. However, amtm can redirect you to a fork at maurerr.github.io instead, which may or may not be updated on the whim of the owner.

Many thanks to visortgw and Colin for their replies.

I will take a look at the mentionned url.

Thanks again and have a safe 2025 year.

Not a single issue with the Entware upgrades - see my signature for addons and routers involved.

Thanks for the notes and update @Twiglets

After the mandatory extra BackupMon (another big 👏🏻 for @Viktor Jaep) I've now updated the entware on my trusty old AX86U and rebooted a couple of times, run a few checks - seemingly all is well. I don't run Unbound but other scripts as per my sig below.

@thelonelycoder , how long does this update normally take to hit your server? Does it require manual intervention on your part or does it do it automatically?

It's probably not a bad thing that there's a bit of a delay before it hits the default @thelonelycoder mirror, given the past propensity for entware updates to break things - may even be desirable! 😀

Those thrillseekers who like living on the bleeding edge can still change to the CN source, if they are game...
