factory default reset question

Ok is there a difference when flashing firmwares and doing a web interface factory reset and the factory reset when pushing in the button in the back?

First post have tried many recommended firmwares .374.979 factory seems to still be best merlins em builds are good but dont work well with pulling my full connection speed to xbox one that is the only one so far that does 374.979. The em build most recent does pull a 79 % signal compared to 67 % with 374.979 but even on my wired connection it hardly pulls my max speeds weird.

374.979 20mbps
39.0em 13mbps

Which router do you have?

From my understanding both of them should do the same thing.

In terms of the speed, i have 50/11 internet and on the newest Merlin -em build get my full speed with zero loss on wired and wifi. Seems weird that you aren't getting the full speeds on your router even wired. Are you using all Cat5e or higher cables? Also i know this one is obvious but i read recently of someone else doing it backwards, are you also installing the new firmware and then resetting the settings etc?

In terms of resetting, I use a different method which is detailed below which seems to work well for me:

Go to: http://192.168.1.1/Main_AdmStatus_Content.asp

Enter these commands: (pressing enter after each one)

mtd-erase -d nvram

reboot

Yeah i followed the directions install new firmware then factory reset isnt that what your suppose to do?

I will give your method a try thanks for the reply. I have the n66
