factory reset required updating old Merlin f/w?

Hello,

Is a factory reset necessary or recommeded updating an RT-AC86U (with diversion) from 384.19 to 386.5_0 or higher?

Also what is a "clean upgrade" and the procedure for this and AC86U. Any links for the instructions are appreciated.

This is one those questions most would recommend a factory reset, but there is still a small subset that would probably tell you that you don't need to.

What I would ask you is-are you ready to perform a factory reset if a feature doesn't work properly after flashing? If so, then proceed. Make hard copies of your settings so you know how to properly put them back in after you reset. Also make backups of any script configurations.
