The following custom values seemed to be working with the fix you suggested.
I see indeed persist-key missing, but persist-tun is there.
Is it supposed to be correct?
I cannot remember if this is the nordvpn default or the result of playing around with some suggestion from you and Merlin.

Code:
remote-random
tun-mtu 1500
tun-mtu-extra 32
mssfix 1450
persist-tun
#ping 15
#ping-restart 0
#ping-timer-rem
explicit-exit-notify 3
remote-cert-tls server
pull
fast-io
inactive 0
keepalive 10 90
auth-nocache
pull-filter ignore "ping"

Can somebody tell me, if there be an update for this firmware soon? Or should i update my RT-AC66U and N56U ?

I've got some problems with my AC66U and the range because it stands in a corner, an can't be removed to other places in the apartment. Then i use a PowerLine Adapter to my N56U and set it up as an AP. But still i got some problems with range...

Let me hear from you guys! :)

I'd say that you might as well update the N56U now. John has just said that he's preparing an update which includes fixes for VPN and DNS but that won't be relevant to your N56U because it's an access point.

Update-28E2 is now available!

The 'E' Build series supports all the support routers, including the newer rev AC68U and similar routers, and is the default fork version.

For those of you with early rev (A1,A2,B1) AC68U's who haven't already updated to V27, I've included a build directory that continues to be based on the earlier SDK, Update-28L2 (Legacy 'L' Build). While my experience is that the newer SDK/drivers runs as good as (or even better) than the older SDK and is recommended, if you do not wish to move to the newer SDK build you may download and install this build instead. It is feature/fix equivalent to the newer SDK build, but without the new rev AC68U support and updated wireless drivers.

I've also included a file @UpgradeMatrix.txt in the download directory. This shows the options for each router and build combination, including the need for a Factory Default reset or possible JFFS reformat.

Update-28E2 Highlights
  • DNSMASQ updated to 2.78, including fixes for recently published CVE's
  • Fix for 5GHz radio not working on Japan region ARM routers - @JLL
  • NEW: Option to block IPv6 internet access when an OpenVPN client is active. This prevents IPv6 'leaks' outside of the OpenVPN tunnel. Note that IPv6 internet access is blocked for all clients, not only those using the OpenVPN client. Local IPv6 access is still permitted. Also, in order to not have delays when browsing the internet, your browser must support RFC6555 (otherwise known as 'Happy Eyeballs'). Chrome, Firefox and Safari all have implemented this RFC and have minimal to no browsing impact. IE/Edge has not, and you may experience delays with using this option.
You may also encounter applications that have not been coded to correctly retry with IPv4 if IPv6 cannot connect. If this occurs, these applications were previously leaking outside of the VPN tunnel.
  • NEW: A new QoS option to 'Suspend' QoS without causing a router reboot. This option turns off QoS, but does NOT restart CTF (HW Acceleration). Suspended status will be reset on a reboot.
  • OpenVPN client options 'persist-tun' and 'persist-key' are no longer added by default to the OpenVPN configuration. If desired, they may be added in the Custom Configuration section. They will also be set if part of an imported .ovpn file. - @cowst
  • NEW: Add direction labels to traffic monitor summary data - @Gravityz
  • Fix for LED Stealth and Power-LED modes not working on the ARM routers - @atkinsom @Wisiwyg
  • Fix for moving ssh certs to JFFS - @Uncle_Gadget
  • Fix to add missing 'ip6tables-save' command

Please review the 'Installation Notes' section in the first post for further information on installing this fork, including the requirements for a factory reset or reformat of JFFS.

Thanks again for everyone's support!

Flashed my AC68U rev. A1 first from V26E to V28L, then V28E2. So far so good. Didn't even do a factory reset. Thx for the effort John.

Yes....I've actually been running an experiment where I did NOT do a factory reset when updating the code from the old SDK to the new SDK. Been running about a week now, and haven't noticed anything misbehaving, wireless or otherwise. That's why I've made the UpdateMatrix.txt entries as 'Recommended (or if you have a problem)'.

No reset here either, just a normal reboot after update, working great.
Thanks again John for taking time to update this fork.

Is it posible to set the guest network more then one Day ?

Doom.
N66U went dark.
I found out the power button doesn't stay down anymore (barely used it overall, and last time was months ago).
Anybody experienced that and knows a way to fix it?

Mine was the same, I got my soldering station out to see if I could put a new switch in. In the end I pushed button in and melted the plastic so it is fixed. Never understood there's a power switch for something that is on 24x7 anyways..

Dutch (European?) regulations.

If you use it as repeater, you might want to turn it off when you go to bed and don't access that part of the house.

I am not doing it, but I know people who do.

Anyone have a script to force the rear LED light off on the AC68U, or AC68W? It doesn't turn off with the button on the back.

What do you then think it is ? I think the router i've got stinks! Bad range, and lots of unstable "unable to show the site" When i put my old good NETGEAR WNR1000 the range isen't good, but no kind of unstable. Can somebody tell me if i can use my ASUS N56U as a AP when i use NETGEAR WNR1000 as main router? Does they talk together if its wired up ?

I did see your note.....ASUS had tied the rear LED to the old 'Turbo' function, and I removed the last pieces of 'Turbo' with the latest releases. You'll need to wait for an update.
