I was reading various postings (not here) where gigabit transfer rates will not be realized unless you have a 64 bit buss with a PCI-e nic... and that Vista actually improves LAN speeds, they did not mention if it was the 32 or 64 bit version... true ???

One thing to remember. If you're using 100megabit and would like a speed bump, switching to gigabit will help even if you don't have a complete network hotrod that can sustain 997megabits/sec.

Even if your hardware can only run as fast as 200 or 300megabit (some older PCs with PCI network interfaces can easily do this) it will cut your wait time in half or by two thirds, and this will be a very welcome improvement.

Gigabit is so cheap these days that it's worth it even for the smaller increase in speed. Don't consider your gigabit investment a failure just because you can't hit exactly a gig.
