Hey all! I currently use the Buffalo AirStation™ Extreme AC 1200 Gigabit Dual Band Wireless Router (WZR-1166DHP) and my only complaint is that the 2.4ghz band is somewhat lacking in speed. I don't use it too terribly much, but it does pose an issue when I do use it. I have been watching DD-WRT to see if this router would be supported with their third party firmware and it finally showed up on their router database page on 7/9/14. Right now it shows it is supported by v24 sp2 - beta [Beta] Build: 24461. I was wondering if there was maybe someone out there that had this exact model router and threw this new DD-WRT build on it and had any experiences? I made a reply on the DD-WRT forum, but haven't had a hit on the thread yet so I thought I'd throw a hail mary here as well and maybe someone would bite. I much prefer DD-WRT to stock firmware and I was hoping that maybe DD-WRT would help with the 2.4ghz band speed as well. I am somewhat hesitant to just go ahead and flash it because reading previous threads with people trying to get DD-WRT to work on it would result in the lights on the router not working or the reset button not working either. Other than that I'd go ahead and take the plunge. Thanks!

While DD-WRT gives one many additional features not found on stock routers, it is usually the same in speed or slower than stock. This is because DD-WRT can usually not take advantage of the hardware offloading many routers support. So if your looking for increased speed or better range, DD-WRT probably won't be the answer.
What speed problem are you seeing on the 2.4Ghz. Most likely you are getting interference on that band. The best thing to do is to try channels 1, 6, or 11 and see which works best for you.

Thanks for the reply! That is good information, thanks for sharing that! I can definitely notice a speed difference between my older Asus rt-n56u and the Buffalo. The Asus is consistently faster on the 2.4ghz band. I am using channel 1 with only 20mhz.
