Hey guys,
I'm eyeing the Synology DS214play and DS214+. They are similarly priced in my country.
Requirements in the following order:
1. Cloud storage - pretty much similar to Dropbox. Is this DS Cloud in Synology where you can store offline content and sync after when there's available internet? My devices are Windows 7, Win8.1, Android, and iPad.
2. Low power consumption - this is the main reason why i'm in the look out for NAS vendors. According to their website, DS214play has a peak power consumption around 28W while 12W in hibernation. Asustor has a feature called S3 (System Sleep Mode) which the NAS (e.g. 202TE) can only consume around 0.8W. Is there something similar to Synology? I won't be using the NAS during the night for obvious reasons and the S3 mode is a really neat feature!
3. Media server - can it stream Bluray ISO flawlessly? I've seen mixed reviews from users but I want to confirm with those DS214play owners out there.
4. Surveillance - I'm planning to purchase a couple of Dlink 932L IP cams to monitor the living room and garage. I want to have 24x7 recording and mobile app to view the recording and live view from time to time when I'm in the office or out of town. Good thing that Synology offers 2 free camera licenses.
I'm going to plug it with 2TB or 3TB WD Red drives. I won't be planning to replace/upgrade with another NAS device in the next 4 to 5 years (this is a hell of an investment). Do you also think that the lower spec'ed DS214 would do the job as well?
I'm also eyeing the Asustor 202TE/302T but they don't have mobile apps for my requirements #1 and #4. Although they have BTsync similar to DS cloud but I'm not sure if BT is opened to secure networks in hotels, office..etc. Asustor is quite cheaper though and has HDMI.
Thanks!
