Help: RT-N66U no more 5G network

Hi,

I am using RT-N66U for about 2 and a half years, without problem till recently, the 5GHz signal totally gone. I tried to do factory reset, clear NVRAM with "mtd-erase -d nvram" command, flashed to latest Merlin firmware (378.57_0). I can see both 2.4G and 5G LED are lit up on the box, but the 5G network is still missing, only a 2.4GHz visible.

I am hoping that someone in this forum happened to have encountered the same problem and have a solution.

What order did you do those steps in? If you cleared the NVRAM and then flashed to the new firmware, that is wrong (backwards). Try again if that is the case.

Then try setting the channels to anything other than Auto.

You may also want to try with john9527's or hggomes firmware too (and after flashing follow the same steps in the link above to start with the new firmware off properly) to see if this is a software and or a configuration issue.

If all the above fails? Time for a new router (is it still under warranty for you?).

That's too bad. But at least you haven't spent too many days, weeks or months trying to track it down.
