Hello everyone I am new to your forum..my question is I have a netgear nighthawk r8500 I have 1 gb of internet when I test my speed directly from modem ill get about 950 900 mb my question is why when I test from router I only get like maybe 400mb my set up is modem, router, switch. Thanks for any advice I can get

the answer is simple your internet is too fast and no domestic router has the wan - lan throughput esp with all its features enabled

this is the pure wan - lan speed but once all features are re enabled the speed is much lower

you will only get the modem speeds by attaching some sort of gateway pc with a bucket of RAM and a fast cpu and some server software on it
 
Pete, specifically, what features do you see affect routing throughput most, aside from QoS, which will naturally affect throughput.
 
Don't traffic monitoring and PPPoE (if transparent bridging) affect CTF, leading to the above issue?
 
By design, CTF is Broadcom's proprietary mechanism to accelerate packets forwarded by hardware.

With CTF disabled, packets are sent via the CPU and the CPU will process packet forwarding.
However, performance will be limited to the CPU capability.

With CTF enabled, packets are forwarded directly without intervention by the CPU and therefore performance is not degraded.

CTF has the ability to bypass the packets that should go to the upper layer originally by HW acceleration, which can improve the throughput.

If functionality such as “Traffic Meter, ACL”, etc, are enabled, upper layer CPU code will be required to process the packets, therefore, CTF will be auto disabled.

The goal is to enable CTF with the above functions enabled and the NETGEAR engineering team are currently working on code optimisation to enhance the coordination work between the CPU and CTF.
