High latency on AImesh node?

New Around Here
Hello!

First post here, but I've been reading and researching for a while.

I recently updated my home networking hardware. My primary router is now an RT-88u and I have an RT-68p set up as an aimesh node (wireless). My throughout is good, but I've noticed quite a bit of latency on my network for any devices that are connected to the node, with pings as high as 300ms for some devices. This is not ideal and certainly not what I was expecting.... so I have a few questions:

1. Are there settings guidelines? There doesn't seem to be much documentation on it (or any other consumer mesh system for that matter).

2. Is this just a limitation of a mesh system that I will be living with?

For what it's worth, I'm using the latest official asus firmware as Merlin doesn't currently support aimesh and I'm trying to cover about 3200 sq ft in 3 floors.

I appreciate any guidance that can offered.

Thanks!
