i have a ac68u and get very unhappy because the transferring speed various a lot. when i use windows 7 and intel 7260, the speed can hit 27MB/s but can also drop to 15MB/s. i am very disappointed about this investment so i am moving to ac56u. can any one tell me the transfering rate using samba. like coping a movie from the attached usb drive to a windows computer. and how about the stability of that speed?

the 56u probably wont be much better. but the r7000 from netgear or the upcoming wrt1900ac from linksys will be much better!

AC56U rate will be identical to AC68U.

You will never get impressive speeds out of a router designed for... routing. The CPU is weaker, and the storage subsystem is nowhere as optimized as in a real NAS. If you need better performance, I would recommend buying a separate NAS.

I would think the USB speeds on the AC56 and AC68 are pretty similar, since they have pretty similar hardware minus the antenna setup.

With my AC68U, I get the same ~27MB/s transfer rate (from a USB2 drive) over SMB as you do. The speed dropping over the course of a day or two seems to be a common thing for AC68U owners, and hopefully an update will fix that (as it is we have to restart the wireless radio every day or two). If you mean your connection goes from 27 to 15 during a single file transfer then you probably have other networks nearby that are interfering with yours and you may need to change the channel you're using or other settings.

That said, if you're not using USB3 then 30MB/s is about the maximum you'll get even with a wired connection.

Thanks for the replys. The speed of ~25MB/s is enough for me. What I concern is does the ac56u have the same speed dropping problem because it has a different radio chip
