How can I share an internet connection with a router ?

New Around Here
Hello, I am forbidden to actually plug my Internet cable into the router(or else I will get my connection suspended). So I want to share my connection with the router wirelessly so that I can connect to the Internet with other devices.

I have a D-Link DIR 615

I can already get into the admin panel wirelessly.
Any help on configuring it that way ? It doesn't seem to have any such option.

I don't know if your scheme will avoid detection. But you'd need to use a pair of wireless (or powerline) bridges. One would connect to your ISP modem and the other to the WAN port of the router.

Umm, well to connect I have to plug a cable into my lan port and into a slot in my wall. From there the cables connect somewhere where only my ISP has access. So no modem on my part. Having a lan connection to the network I can create and use a PPPOE connection with a username and password that the ISP gives me.

In the rules section on their website it states that using a router without authorization will get my account suspended. Getting authorization is not possible in my situation.

My laptop has a wireless connection that I can use to connect to the router. I have tested sharing the Internet connection with a friend's computer through an ad-hoc wireless connection and it has worked. That's why I'm wondering if I can share it with my router somehow since I've already established a wireless connection, the Internet doesn't magically work however :) when connecting to it with another laptop or a psp.

Think of the wall jack as the modem.

My guess is that your connection is tied to the MAC address of the computer that was first used. The router probably has an option to set the MAC address of the WAN port. You would just set it to the MAC address of the LAN adapter on the computer that works.

You can get the MAC address from the Support Tab > Details button of the Connection Status window (assuming Windows).

But proceed at your own risk since you'll be violating your ToS.

How was your laptop connected to the Internet when it shared via Ad-Hoc wireless? Were you using Windows Internet Connection Sharing?

Wow, yes I did have to give my MAC address when I registered an account.
So to make it work directly I have to put the MAC address somewhere in the configuration. Ok, but that would be risky yea, they would probably catch me... how can they catch me anyway ? How would they know the difference ?

Another little detail is: they say that after they give the go ahead for a router they give an address to use with the router.

About the Ad-hoc - well I'm not certain he used the shared connection or his connection to access the net, i could try again to see for sure, if that makes a difference. It was my roommate who uses the same kind of connection on his laptop. I used this connection(in lan port) and windows ics, it's usually worked in the past(with other connections).

Let's just say that they have their ways.

That's kind of odd.

Yes, ICS would work the way you describe to share the connection.
