My house has two wireless access points, both Zyxel WAP 3205's and they both have the same SSID.

It's my understanding that my devices should automatically connect to whichever AP offers the stronger signal. How can I tell which AP is actually being used by a given device? traceroute didn't even mention the AP.

There is no easy way on a client to determine the specific AP it is connected to.

It's not guaranteed that clients will connect to the strongest AP. They might connect to the first one they see. The only way to guarantee connection to a specific AP is to give it a different name.

On my Android phone, using wifi analyzer, it gives the MAC address of the AP that I'm connected to. You could try that.
