How can I *reliably* determine the current Operating Mode of the router from the CLI and NVRAM? As in Router vs. AP vs. Repeater, etc.

I looked through NVRAM, and I can't for the life of me see any such variable. I'm thinking of something that can be set to 0, 1, 2, etc. depending on the operating mode. In frustration, I've been trying to determine the mode *implicitly* by the configuration of other variables, system data structure (e.g., ifconfig), but this has proven elusive and unreliable.

Maybe I'm just missing the obvious.
