Question in the Title: I do not understand the different between the terms "Recovery Mode" and "Factory Default restore" ?

Router: N66U

I ask this in reference to prepping the Router for the new Merlin current firmware; the router's current firmware is very very old.

thanks

Recovery Mode is, as the name says, a mode in which the router is put but turning it on with the reset button pressed so you can restore a working firmware on it even if the currently flashed firmware fails to work.

Factory Default restore is the action of restoring your settings to the factory default values, either through the reset button, the Factory Default button on the Restore/Save/Upload web page, or the WPS button while turning the router on.

RMerlin : a brief thank you for taking the time to answer my question re "recovery mode" vs. "factory defaults". Google is a wonderful resource, but I often prefer to ask smart humans .
