How to avoid dead spots/weak signals with Asus gear

New Around Here
Hi, I have an RT-AC66U router and two EA-N66's set up as wired access points in my house. The RT-AC66U is running the Merlin firmware.

The access points each have separate SSIDs from the router, which I believe is recommended for this type of setup.

My problem is that our wifi devices (notebooks, tablets, etc) don't switch between the router and access point SSIDs quickly enough when they leave the area with the router to go to the areas with the access points - and vice versa. So devices are often connected to weak signals unless we change them manually, which is cumbersome. It's more of an annoyance for the rest of my family than it is for me, but the annoyance for me is all of the complaining by my family about our wifi. :)

I wanted to see what a good solution might be and was hoping to get some advice here. I've been reading about some of the "mesh" setups (like the Eero) where there is only one wifi network/SSID so there isn't switching back and forth. It seems that I should have a strong signal since I have wired access points but I don't.What could I do to improve my situation? I'm even willing to replace the EA-N66s with two more RT-AC66U routers if that will help, but I need advice as to the best way to configure them. As mentioned, I do have ethernet cables run through my house that I could connect them to.

If you are looking for devices to roam (using term loosely), your AP's need to be configured with the same SSID and passphrase. Some clients roam better than other's. Some clients stick to an Access Point until total signal loss.

thiggins just posted this link on sticky clients. Perhaps it will shed some light on the subject.

General consensus on this forum, is to stay away from Mesh..
