Ideal NAS to go with Mac?

I am a MAC user, can anyone give me suggestions on the best NAS currently on the market to go with my MAC?

I guess you'd just want to look for products that support Time Machine. Otherwise, NASes tend to be OS neutral, except for installation "wizards" that you don't really need that run on Windows only and if you're interested in using bundled backup software.

I believe so, however if you are an all Mac environment WHS is not the ideal solution.

I'm also in need of a NAs that is compatible with a mixed PC/Mac network. I used to have a WD Netcenter which served me fine for my purposes. It died a couple of weeks ago. I've read how some NAS devices are not fully compatible with Snow Leopard. I'm looking for something that features Time Machine compatibility and a print server in Snow Leopard/Windows XP. iTunes server features a plus. Suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I too am in the market for a NAS that is compatable with a mixed PC/Mac network. I generate about a 1TB of data a year shooting photos. Currently I have external HDs on a shelf. But I'm unsure what to get or what I need. It would be used to store only photos. Any suggestions?

Hi all,

Blow are my detailed requirements for this NAS I need to go with my MAC.

My budget is around $200~300 US.
2 Bay or 4 Bay - Must be able to support both 3.5 and 2.5 HDD
Must have good multimedia compatibility to stream videos with my PS3 and XBOX
Enough USB ports for expansion, for my printer and to copy files from USB disks etc...
Most importantly, it must be quiet, because I am going to use it in my room and my room is very small.

I"m also looking for a NAS to support a PC and MAC network. I'm running Leopard OSX 10.6.2 and have read that some NASs have trouble with this OS and also with Time Machine.

I'm looking at the D-Link DNS-323. They are about to release new firmware that is supposed to let you use the USB port to attach an external USB Drive. That could be used to backup the internally mounted disks, or it could be dedicated to MAC computers to run Time Machine. It is in the price range you are looking at. Most of the others are more expensive, but may be worth the extra money. I've spent time on the D-Link forum and am getting mixed signals there. I'm waiting to see what the new firmware release does with the USB port. Should be out this week. Currently the USB port is a print server or can be used to talk to a UPS.
