improving NAS responsiveness

Hello,

i have QNap TS-409 Pro, connected to Gbit switch (Linksys SD2005), to a stationary PC.

I can accept the slow read/write speeds, but the lag is killing me. Since I browse content on NAS a lot, the lag when entering directory for example is very annoying.

Is there any way to reduce this "lag"?

Thank you.

I suspect that the "lag" is due to a Windows network browsing issue and not the NAS.
First, just going to Network Neighborhood selecting all shares you see and deleting them.
The system might be wasting time looking for shares that are not there.

If you want fast connection, either access the share via IP address or set up a mapped drive.

I'm using it as a mapped drive infact.

Out of ideas I've even tried to install NFS client for windows and access NAS through NFS protocol, but that didn't seem much faster..
