IP Cam License

Hi,

I bought 212j few weeks back for the reason that it can support multiple IP Cam. However, after buying 4 IP Cams, I realized I need to pay extra licenses in order to add more cameras after first camera. I feel I am being cheated since the website clearly indicates it can support multiple cameras, they never mentioned additional license fees are required for additional cameras. Now, I am stuck with 212j + 4 ip cams, they are expensive equipment.

Does anyone out here know how to get around this problem without paying extra license fees. any help is greatly appreciated. thanks.

All the NAS vendors do this. No doubt the idea is that a home or tiny business gets a small number of free licenses. But a large business with a lot of cameras has to pay more - as they typically need more tech support time. I guess.

And look at their competition: See what Pelco or others in that world charge!!!

I think what the vendors should do is have a sliding scale of camera licences built in depending on the model bought

Basic model = 1 licence free
Mid range model = 5 licences free
Top of the range models = 10 licences free

If you need any more, only then pay for the extra licences

If I bought a top of the range NAS, I wouldn't be happy about spending all that money to find to find it only allowed the use of 1 camera

The datasheet and spec page for the 212j does mention that only 1 licence is free

MAX IP cam # (Licenses required) : 5 (1 Free License)
