I have been using RT-N56U for almost two years now.8 months ago i upgraded my internet line up-to 30 meg.I received virgin media super hub (modem with integrated router).i put superhub to modem mode and used RT-N56U as my router.ever since i upgraded to 30meg line internet was super slow .recently i bought a WD my book live and connected it directly via wire to N56U. when i started transferring files i realized the transfer speed is only around 1.5MBps.i was confused because since my book live was connected directly to the router i was expecting bit more. as result i took virgin media super hub out of the modem mode and activated wireless router. not only my internet reached 30meg when i connected my book live(via wire) transfer speed reached 5.5 Mbps. I connected RT-N56U as an access point and did speed tests simultaneously and Asus only reached 1.5Meg maximum while virgin superhub reached almost 30meg. I did a hard reset to asus router and upgraded to latest firmware. (3.00.43.42). Is my router dying out?

I'm curious if you tried directly connecting a laptop or computer to the super hub with the super hub in modem mode, and see what the speed there was? Although, if you connected the Asus router as an access point (with a hardwired cat5e or cat6 ethernet cable) and only got 1.5Mb/s, that's a bad sign for your router.

Undoubtedly you've reset and power cycled the Asus router and manually re-entered your settings, since you've had it set up as an AP as well as router. But if you haven't done this, please try it, it's about the only thing that I can think of at the moment that might be causing a problem.

One other thing, you might turn off both your super hub (in modem mode), and your Asus router. Then leave the super hub and router off for about 5 minutes or so. At that point power up the super hub and reset it, and wait until all the lights on it stabilize (make sure that its in modem mode). Then power up your Asus router and see what happens from there.

But it could be that your Asus router is broken, that happens, too. I hope not, but it happens.

cheers for the reply Rogersc. i connected directly but it couldn't go over 1.5Mb. then i connected RT-N56U to my book live and what i realized was every time i copy a file PC-> MBL the speeds reached 70Mbps. But if download it back from MBL speeds wouldn't exceed 1.5Mbps

Its working!!!

update:: two of my laptops are acer and both are running windows 8. i borrowed my friend's laptop which runs windows 7 and turned out RT-N56U working with full speed. i was really confused and i re installed drivers for my windows 8s but didn't really work. then i downloaded windows 7 x64bit wireless drivers from acer website and installed. magic worked.its working just as normal. So my router wasn't dying after all. i really wanted it to work, and it does:).

Glad to hear that things are working well for you again.
