Issue setting up n66u in AP mode

bkselly

New Around Here
I have a primary device (ac86u) and a device I'd like to set up as the AP (n66u)

I originally had the n66u flashed to a Merlin firmware, and it worked perfectly as an AP, but the update prompt kept bugging me so I finally updated to the latest stock firmware (52747). In retrospect, I probably shouldn't have done that since it's the ac86u that's more prone to security concerns (since it is internet facing)

Anyway - when I try to set up the n66u, I do it through an ethernet cable with WiFi off on the laptop and I go through the wizard. If I allow it do assign IP automatically, it seems to assign 192.168.1.1 which conflicts with the main device ac86u

If I configure manually and set an IP (say 192.168.1.200 for example), it seems to confirm the set up, but then becomes inaccessible. Setting the MAC address to manually assign the IP address (.200) to the n66u also does not help. Asus Device Discovery then states "your computer and your wireless router are on a different subnet mask..." which ipconfig /all suggests is true (coming back at 0 instead of 255 for the third set of numbers)

I'm not quite sure what I'm doing wrong and would appreciate any guidance. TY

Double checked everything and it looks like the AC68U to N66U ethernet connection was plugged in but loose... Thanks for the assistance
