Recently i'm starting to get a annoying problem where many internet pages stop working, returning the ERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUT. After many retries (F5) and some time, page is able to access. And i'm talking about common pages, like google, github and others. Ping also fails but if i access via phone mobile internet it works, meaning the problem come from my home internet/network.
After seeing the logs of the router i found this: kernel: Dead loop on virtual device vlan100, fix it urgently!
VLAN100 is the internet, i kept a eye on logs and when error stop pop i was able to navigate on the pages again.

How can i fix this problem?

Hi,

I'm using same version of Merlin and same ASUS model.
Do a hard reset and re-configure it manually... I suspect you have been updating firmware keeping the same config.

I did a reset some updates ago, i always do when on changelog says is better to perform a factory reset.
I would try that if no other easy solution, as reset is painfull to restore every router settings/configs

Start with basics:

We know... but as best practice after 2-3 updates I do a reset and set all again, which takes me an insane amount of time... but I rest knowing it's stable.

Particularly this part:
Code:
# I had to add this, else I get the "Dead loop on virtual device vlan100, fix it urgently" msgs in the logs
sleep 5
tc qdisc add dev vlan100 root pfifo
I don't have any nat-start script present on the router. But i can give that line a try.

Also here my robocfg

This seems unrelated to your dead loop problem.

IIRC there were other posts recently about github being incorrectly blocked by Skynet.

IIRC there were other posts recently about github being incorrectly blocked by Skynet.

Happens with other websites as well, but the block is temporary.
Still i will try to disable skynet and see if the problem repeats.

EDIT: At live skynet log entries (Show Log Entries As They Appear), nothing shows when github is blocked by "kernel"
NVM, they are starting to pop there too, i will disable it.

EDIT 2: whitelist 140.82.121.3 works as well

Hi all,

I have the same exact hw/fw as OP (AC88U running 386.3_2). Recently, I have been getting this error frequently, but on vlan2.

Code:
kernel: Dead loop on virtual device vlan2, fix it urgently!

Needless to say, internet disconnects whenever this error pops up. It will come back on its own, but then goes down again, intermittently. The last week or so, I've been getting it everyday.

I used to reboot the router (which takes 2mins or so, and is not always an option given work/school-from-home setup here) and the problem goes away. But sometimes as soon as the reboot completes, the problem comes back immediately.

I came upon this fix,

Code:
tc qdisc add dev vlan2 root pfifo

from another post (http://www.snbforums.com/threads/ke...evice-vlan2-fix-it-urgently.19780/post-143281) which used to work for me until now, and now I get this error:

Code:
RTNETLINK answers: File exists

Like the OP, I don't want to hard reset the router unless there is no other way to fix the problem.

Please let me know if there are other options. Also, I can supply any relevant info if you would please let me know.

Thank you so much.
