New Around Here
Hi all, so i went out and bought these LIFX A19 White bulbs from Amazon:
https://amzn.to/2YY3lUg

And I bought 4 of them. I plugged them all in and connected them to the wifi network and they worked for the first couple days. But when I got home one day, they just wouldn't appear in the LIFX app:

Could this be because of a weak connection?. I live in a basement suite and use a Wi=Fi connection upstairs. Would anyone here recommend getting an extended wifi router?.

Are you using the Wi-Fi connection with permission? Could be the owner detected unknown devices on the network and blocked them.

Of course I am, she lives above me and I asked for the password.
Sorry if I offended you, that wasn't my intent.

I don't imagine the bulbs have great radios. What's your signal strength like in the area(s) where you are using the bulbs? Have you tried moving a bulb closer to the area in your apt that is more directly under the router above?

I got the bulbs because the light switch is on the outside of my room. The bulbs are in my main bedroom, and I installed them so i wouldnt have to walk butt naked outside my room each time to turn the lights off or on.

The signal strength for my phone's wifi is 5 bars, but for a signal for the cell towers its like 1 bar. When someone calls me I am usually breaking up so i have to get people to call me on my TextMe number which uses Wifi.

So thats why I thought maybe a Wi-Fi extender would increase the signal for the bulbs so they would connect and be useable.

The last time I used a LIFX bulb (just one) was at another house and the router and bulb were in the same room. Never had an issue with connectivity.

It doesn't sound like the problem is signal strength.

Is it possible that the router you are connecting to has its WiFi set to auto and it changed channels and the bulbs didn't also shift or the channel that is now being used is weaker?

I'm not sure what the settings could be set on, it's her router and i'm not sure if it's ok to mess with the settings, what do you guys think?.

Remember that my cell phone doesnt get a good signal in the basement and I use Wifi to call people (Google Voice).

Maybe the best thing to do would be to just get another router just for the bulbs and connect them directly in my room?. Though I would have to connect to the network each time to turn the bulbs off...

If the signal is strong enough to use for calls, it should be good enough for the bulbs.
Switch back to regular LED bulbs and use these https://amzn.to/34NUNRh. I use them in my garage and I have all my Christmas lights on the outlet version. Work great.

There isn't a lot of space inside of the light fixture for that i dont think. Let me know what you guys can come up with.
Oh and what about Bluetooth bulbs?, then I wouldn't be relying on Wifi so much:

Here are my lights (I have two of these fixtures in my bedroom):
