Limited connectivity

New Around Here
Hello everybody
First, I'd like to thank the site for the great reviews that have helped me educate myself and find good routers.
I'm a self-taught computer enthusiast living in Chile, and wireless networking is easily my weakest area. Yes, I'm a noob at this.:(

Anyways, I bought an asus n56u last year and setup my home network-
My ISP is cable, and I have 3 wired clients (main PC, AV reciever and smart TV), plus another router that is wired and used as a access point. I have a couple of notebooks and smartphones that connect to the wifi network.

Everything was working ok, except that the secondary router was a piece of caca so speeds suffered but the connectivity was there. Very rarely would i ever have to reset the n56 router, no complaints.

Today, my wife had her connection drop a couple times, so I decided to check and everything was fine. Her connection came back. But I noticed my firmware was way out of date (I didnt write down, but it was 1.0.0.8 IIRC). So, figuring it must be more stable, faster etc I updated to the latest 3.0.0.4.360.

The wired clients all work fine, but now wifi is not working. Neither notebooks connect at all (windows was unable to connect, resolve issues? screen comes up but doesnt solve problems). The smartphones connect with "limited connectivity", ie, no connectivity.

I have tried fiddling with activating/deactivating router features with no luck. I have tried hard reset. And I was about to install the custom firmware 3.0.3.6-061 but decided to ask the experts instead.

The good news is that my brother arrives in 4 days with an asus AC66u that I ordered (to make my primary and kick the 56u to AP duty) and I expect that should help restart from zero, but regardless of that I want to understand what's wrong and how to fix it!

Appreciate any help I can get

NVM, I read another thread on connectivity problems and tried the suggestion of resetting with only the modem and main PC connected and now all of my clients connect. Now all I need is to replace the dinky router upstairs and all will be set!
Thanks anyways!

If you're still having problems, the article below is a general guide for cascading routers together. Often times, limited or no connectivity can indicate an IP address conflict. Power cycling is usually only a temporary fix.

You can also use inSSIDer to help you try to find the best channel. Setting the channel width to "20 MHz only" can sometimes help too.
