Hi!

I have been thinking about buying a used LinkStation, and replacing the 3.5" HD with a 2.5" HD. The smaller HD will produce less heat, and consume less power. Since it consumes less power, the LinkStation's power supply will also have to output less power, and therefore maybe also run a little cooler. So maybe the fan could be removed, without having the LinkStation overheat. Has anyone tried this?

I have not. But after using Linkstation Live for two years, always on, my opinion is the heat is not a problem, unless the room is very hot. The fan swiches on only in the summer, when it happens to have 28-29 degress C.

As for the HDD spinning noise, it is barely audible. I use the LS in our bedroom, so it is ok for me and my wife. As an added bonus, you will notice if there is an unexpected activity by the seek noise - it is audible. That is how I noticed unexpected long activity in the night, then looked at the processes and found out the ftp was hacked

I used ACP_Commander.jar to unlock the LS.
