Local vs NAS file setup location??

New Around Here
How does everyone setup their network in terms of logical file location when using a NAS?

For example, I use my NAS as mostly a file library archive where most of my files on my NAS are read only for protection while the files on my local machine are read/write. I keep files locally for other reasons too; 1) not confuse my wife, 2) performance (ie. video editing).

The problem is that if I want to remote into my NAS and see my NAS drive AND the files on my local PC's. How do I accomplish this? My current method is just using file synchronization.

Any thoughts would be welcome.

You can see files only if they are stored on the NAS when you remotely access it.

Yes I am aware of that but what is the best practice when balancing what is local and what is on the NAS? I suppose now that I think about it there is not much else that can be done.

There is no "best practice" other than to have a backup of any files you don't want to lose on a physically separate device.
