Looking for an Office Router

Mkz

New Around Here
OK guys

I'm looking for a router that will give me real time monitoring of my internet traffic and show me what IP/MAC is using the bandwidth in real time, With the option to limit that user and/or add him to MAC address restriction list temporary.

I'm also looking for it to be able to make a gust network SSID, with restricted intranet access and a limited internet speed /bandwidth.

I also would like it to have AC Gigabit Wireless and of-course gigabit ethernet.

QoS is good.

port blocking/forwarding and triggering, website retraction, OPEN-VPN support, DDns and Wifi MAC address black/white restriction list, are a very important feature to me.

ease of use is welcomed but not very necessary if there is instruction or tutorials some where.

I'm looking around and I found some of the Asus routers witch I like allot (I'm using RT-AC66U) which has most of the futures I mentioned above but lack the specific IP/MAC bandwidth monitoring (It dos have real time monitoring but for over all not specific user).

I also flashed DD-WRT into it played with it for a while, but I couldn't find bandwidth monitoring or limiting. It had QoS but then so dos stock firmware.

So What do you guys suggest? I hear Tomato firmware had it is it any good? stable? and how dos it work on that?

also if there is a hardware enterprise solution that I don't know about, and will make my life easier with a nice GUI, I would love to know about it.

Sorry if my grammar is bad or annoying.

Would this "office" router+AP be for your home office? Or for an actual business office? And what is your budget, if you have one? It's a bit tough to gauge the scale and/or service level you're looking to implement here, irrespective of the features you've listed (all of which should be covered by quality equipment/firmware at the business level).

As a general preface, commodity hardware with open-source firmware is fine for personal use and may even may work in a SOHO type setting, but if this gear is going to be used for an actual business, then I'd look beyond that segment and into actual business-class gear.

Is this for a business or for a home office?
What is the realistic budget?
How many users?
What type of internet connection/backup connections do you have?

Just as a side point, for a business you ought to be cutting up the features into different devices.

1:
real time monitoring of my internet traffic and show me what IP/MAC is using the bandwidth in real time
Router

2:
limit that user and/or add him to MAC address restriction list temporary.
Firewall on Router

3:
I'm also looking for it to be able to make a guest network SSID
VLANs on router/switch/AP

4:
with restricted intranet access
Firewall on the Router

5:
limited internet speed /bandwidth.
QOS on the Router

6:
I also would like it to have AC Gigabit Wireless
Speed of the access point

7:
and of-course gigabit ethernet.
Ports on your Switch

8:
QoS is good.
Router

9:
port blocking/forwarding and triggering
Router

10:
website retraction
Not sure what "Website retraction" is but if you mean "Restrictions" then thats part of the Firewall on the Router

11:
OPEN-VPN support
VPN service. Can be hosted on the Router, or a dedicated VM or Appliance

12:
Service. Can be hosted on the Router, an existing server, or a secondary Appliance that supports the service you want.

13:
Wifi MAC address black/white restriction list, are a very important feature to me.
Can be done a few ways.
Firewall on the Router
Restrictions at the switch level
Restrictions at the Access Point level

14:
ease of use is welcomed but not very necessary if there is instruction or tutorials some where.
Are you comfortable with learning command line?

If you are willing to try:
live simulator of the Tomato firmware:
http://victek.is-a-geek.com/virtual/tomatok26/status-index.html
here is the Tomato Firmware for the RT-AC66u by Shibby:
http://tomato.groov.pl/?page_id=164
It is under the K26RT-AC directory.
You want the following file:
tomato-RT-AC66U_RT-AC6x--121-AIO-64K.trx

i use a cool smart router, Wolflinks Smart Router
Wi-Fi Wireless Dual-Band+ Router with Gigabit Ports, Smart Wi-Fi App Enabled

A router like the asus ac68u will meet most of your needs if you install tomato firmware. here are the features it can offer, especially if you use the AIO builds http://tomato.groov.pl/?page_id=81

Keep in mind that with even the top of the line consumer routers, when you enable QOS, the WAN throughput drops almost in half, thus if you have a gigabit internet connection, then expect to lose half of your speed when you enable QOS.

If you do not have a gigabit internet connection, and in general have less than around 400mbit/s then you should be fine even with QOS enabled.
