Lost settings

Provoda

New Around Here
It might have been answered before but i couldn't find it.

I am not sure what have happened but my router has lost all of its settings (DHCP reservations, SSID name, admin credentials etc) - it revereted to default SSID and i was greeted with initial setup once i've connected to it via browser.

I am wondering if anyone else have experienced this and what is the solution to avoid it doing so in the future.

My router is brand new (not 2 days have past). It's on 3.0.0.4.220.

P.S. I've noticed that it's running hot - its plastic case is hot to touch (it is not melting).

Thanks.

I have not - this is a stock firmware.

<< Update >>.
It seems that is also rebooting on its own. about every 7 hours (so far) - does this mean it's faulty and i should replace it?

What's better: send it to ASUS via RMA or exchange it in store?

Start by upgrading to the latest firmware (3.0.0.4.260) and make sure you have GRO forced to disabled on the LAN -> Switch Control. That option will prevent some cases that can cause the router to reboot itself as it crashes.

I would advise doing a reset to factory defaults after updating the firmware, just in case you might have some garbled settings stored in nvram, causing stability issues.

If after that you still have random reboots, I would contact Asus or your reseller to have it replaced.

Exchange in store is always better if possible - otherwise you might be sent back a refurbished router if you go through Asus (and I don't know how long the RMA could take).

Thanks RMerlin.
I'll follow your recommendations once i get home.

Does GRO option appears only in 3.0.0.4.260?

It was added with 246.

Note that if you are running my custom firmware you don't need to disable that option - I compile the firmware without that option since it's unstable.
