I've just noticed lots of recurring entries in the system log referring to my son's play station. Can anyone enlighten me as to why this might be happening. The play station is not being used at the moment and appears to have been left on standby.

Could be many things, including maybe a marginal signal. I once had a phone that would do something similar, and a reboot of the phone would help stabilize it.

The signal is very strong (the device has direct line of site to the router, about 4 metres away).

Perhaps this:

Power saving mode. Checks the connectivity periodically and goes to sleep again.
Is it normal for this to be happening every 5 seconds or so?

I don't know. Do you have any real issue with this client or just curious?
Just curious, although the fact that there are so many of these entries might make it difficult to spot something that might be important. I'll see what happens when my son uses his play station again.

It is disconnecting with an error regarding the "4-way handshake process". The 4-way handshake occurs when a device attempts to connect to a secured WiFi network using WPA/WPA2 encryption. For some reason in your case, the handshake does not complete and times out.

I don't know what that can be, but I would first make sure nothing changed in the "Authentication Method" settings of the router or even the password.

Aha - I think you may have helped me pinpoint the reason. I did change the Wi-Fi password recently and I don't think my son has used his play station since then (he's been too preoccupied with having his iPhone stolen and attempted fraudulent use of his banking account).
