Hello everyone!

I hope someone might have some advice for me here;

I have a miniPC device which apparently has an issue getting an IP when connected to a Cisco managed switch that is doing spanning tree protocol and has portfast disabled.

I want to replicate the issue locally, so am looking to buy a Cisco managed switch with STP and the ability to toggle portfast on and off.

I came across this model: http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/switches/catalyst-2960-24tt-l-switch/model.html

Which can be found fairly cheap: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000C1GBK0/?tag=snbforums-20

The documentation for the unit links to portfast instructions.

Is this an okay choice? Or are there any other considerations that I am missing / better models for this purpose?

Appreciate the help!

If you're trying to replicate, you would do well to let us know what the existing switch model is, and to stay close to that family.

The issue is probably localized to a family of switches. There could be plenty of models it might not happen to due to hardware or software being significantly different.

This is a well-known issue, you can reproduce the problem in a GNS3 virtual lab...
Unless you really want to do it with your miniPC and a real Cisco switch.
This is due to the fact that it takes around 45s for a STP interface to transition to its forwarding state whereas your miniPC boots in 15/20 seconds. Hence the miniPC DHCP Discover packets will never get the chance to reach any DHCP server...
