Apologies if I missed this being posted before, tried to search since it's not a very new article. But, this is an interesting article examining the reliability of DoT vs Do53 (as they call it).

The data they dug up squares with my experience trying to use DoT with Quad9 on my router. It explains the occasional hiccups people see with DoT. And this is why I have stopped using DoT for now.

I like the idea of encrypted DNS, but the implementations of DoT have not been reliable on the router for me (really looking at you, Stubby). I’m surprised by the people who swear by it. I usually swore at it, instead. Haven’t tried it in a long time, however.
