I have a T-Mobile Cellspot AC-1900 router running as an Access Point(AP) mode with ASUS Firmware Version:3.0.0.4.376_3221. I also have an RT-68U running 384.15 as the main router. Any thoughts on the wisdom of upgrading the AC-1900 to wrt merlin?

It's doable. But not be discussed in this forum.
Google the topic will guide you somewhere that allow discussion.
