New Around Here
I'm at the end of my rope with this and am looking for help. I have a Windows 7 x64 Home Premium PC with an epson printer attached to it. I recently bought an iBook running OSX leopard. I'm having a heck of a time getting the two to play together. The Win7 can read shared files on the apple, but the apple cannot find shared files or the printer on the windows 7 machine. I am also running the following on the pc:

Windows firewall
Bitdefender Internet Security 2010
NetworkMagic essentials
ZHONE model 6218-12-200-0cc wireless router (my isp supplies and requires)

Both are set up for file sharing, pc for printer sharing, and the printer is shared. I've tried everything suggested on the Apple forums & Windows forums, shutting down the firewalls, NetworkMagic for Mac software, and a trip to the apple store all with no change. I also tried a TrendNet print server but it wasn't compatible with 64-bit os' and messed me up.

I've practically given up, but if I can get it working I'd be amazed.

Try these

(1) Read and try this thread first (make sure there are no spaces in the windows printer share name)
http://social.answers.microsoft.com...e/thread/bd920e46-dbeb-4bb2-a38e-8791facd0608

(2) Try Gutenprint on the Mac side
http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net/MacOSX.php
Check to see if your Epson printer is on the supported list - http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net/p_Supported_Printers.php

You didn't mention the printer model or your wireless router model. Some wireless routers can share USB printers.

The Printer is an epson nx300. I've tried both the Gutenprint+CUPS drivers and the Epson-provided Mac ones. The router model is mentioned in the original post.

I tried the lpd workaround before and it never seemed to work.

Probably the most important settings needing to be changed are 128-bit encryption, change it to 40- or 56-bit encryption, and LAN Manager Authenication Level to "use NTLMv2 session if negotiated" for compatability with OS X 10.5.

There is also the option of sharing the printer via the Mac which does seem to work.

I haven't been able to find a way to change the LAN manager settings. When I get to the control panel>admin tools there's no option for local security policies. Running Windows 7 H&P fwiw

Command prompt>gpedit.msc
or
Start>Search for programs and files>gpedit.msc

Computer Configuration\Windows Settings\Security Settings\Local Policies\Security Options\Network security: LAN Manager authentication level

Running Windows 7 H&P fwiw

Win 7 Home Premium? Gpedit/Secpol doesn't exist in that edition. Then you're gonna need to do an Registry edit or upgrade to Pro or Ultimate.

1 . Open registry editor ( Start search - regedit)
2 . Browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa
3 . Create a new DWORD value with the following properties: NAME: LmCompatibilityLevel VALUE: 1

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc960646.aspx

If you don't want to open the registry editor you can create a reg file using notepad to install/merge into the registry.

I opened regedit and that key was already in there, however it is in all lower case. Would that make a difference?

No, whats it's setting/value? Default is 0. Needs to be set to 1.

Was your Windows 7 an upgrade from a previous install of say XP 64(can be done with modified install) or Vista 64? Try creating the reg file or use the one I made to merge it again, see if it makes a difference. Try enabling password protected sharing(requires adding a password to your windows user account if not already), someone on a forum stated clients prior to OS X 10.6 wouldn't work without it. If all else fails, upgrade to Pro or Ultimate.

prior os was xp pro 32bit, and this is 7 64bit so it was a clean install. I'll try the password and see if that works. And I think I could fix all of this with a printer with wifi...but I'm just being stubborn at this point.
