Moving configuration between routers

Hey there!

In the Administration section of MerlinWRT, I can Save / Restore configuration. Will this save everything? Like is saving the config essentially the same thing as making a full backup? If I bought a new router and restored, would it be set up just like my previous? And on that note, I'm on an AC68U right now - if I move to the AC3200, would that work?

I just have so many little things like port forwarding, a different default IP range, etc etc, that at this point it seems quite daunting to migrate things manually. Thanks!

I think not. Two different firmware.

The built in configuration backup tool is not recommended for going between firmware updates on the same router, much less different models. :)

Use the nvram save/restore tool instead by john9527. And even then, you may still need to do some manual tweaking in the end.

Thanks for letting me know - is there any way we might get something like this built into the MerlinWRT firmware? When I get a new iPhone, I can just pull down all my old settings (either from iCloud or a local backup) and then boom - i'm back up and running.

And before somebody snickers at me and tells me that an iPhone is not the same as a router, etc, I obviously realize this, but it seems like for a finite number of settings (DNS servers, DHCP settings, port forwarding rules, etc), it would make a lot of sense to have this built right in! I think it would be a really cool feature! Merlin, can we kickstart something like this so you get compensated? :)
