Hi,

I have an ASUS RT-AC86U wireless router that I bought last year.

I've noticed that my router does not seem to want to update to the latest firmware.

When I login to my router via my Windows 10 machine, and I goto the Administration section and click 'Check Update' it says:

The router is checking the ASUS server for the firmware update
Current Version : 9.0.0.4.386_41994

It checks for a bit, and then says:

The latest version : The router's current firmware is the latest version.

So I just assumed I was on the latest version.

But today I went to the ASUS website to check and see if there were any newer ones.

I found mine:

Version 9.0.0.4.386.41994 Beta Version
2021/02/03 61.7 MBytes
ASUS RT-AC86U Firmware version 9.0.0.4.386.41994 (Beta Version)

But then I noticed that the latest version is listed and it seems to be much newer:

Version 3.0.0.4.386.45956
2021/11/25 62.68 MBytes
ASUS RT-AC86U Firmware version 3.0.0.4.386.45956

So I am now wondering, should I manually try to update my router? Or just let it sit at Version 9.0.0.4.386.41994 like it seems to want to?

Thanks!

Yes, beta versions must be upgraded manually.

Hi,

the version of 25-11-2021 is indeed the newest version. 45956
9.0.0.4 is beta version, 3.0.0.4 is official version. I think best is to upgrade to official version.
Ok thank you, do you think I should contact ASUS about this? It seems odd that my router is selecting to stay on an older beta version rather a newer official version.

Thanks again!

Oh I see now. That's odd because I never updated this router since I bought it. It came with that version 9.0.0.4 installed. I bought it new from Best Buy. Thanks!

Possible, I suppose, given the beta firmware is listed online with released firmware. If so, not nice, Asus! Or maybe you got a returned router... people like to mess things up and then return them... anything is possible.
