Hello,

I would like to have a local backup option for my QNAP NAS and looking at TrueNAS but wondering what people use for this purpose.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

You could simply get a SATA cable that has a power supply for the drive and a drive and connect it to the NAS for a periodic local backup.

TrueNAS runs on a PC and you can customize your hw and nic for the performance you want. I just use Linux because it offers more flex when adding functions besides storage.

There's a lot of different options. I opt to use another nas...actually nearly 20 of them. :D

The best local backup option for you will depend on your specific needs and budget. If you are looking for a reliable and affordable solution, I recommend using a QNAP expansion unit or an external hard drive.
