New Around Here
Greetings,

I am not a server expert. I have a 5 yearr old DS1415play, 4 x 6TB drives.

I have just purchased a 1019+ with 5 x 10TB plus a diskless expansion DX517 5bay

My 1415play is 98% full of data. Can someone point me to the best methods to transfer this data, or physically move the hard drives, and get a new set of volumes built on the new machine?

Many thanks,

Steve

Set up the new NAS with the new HDD's and fully test the drives before going to the next step with the built-in features.

Copy (Do Not Move) the data to the new NAS using the fastest connection common to both (USB 3.0, if possible, or LAN).

I would not recommend moving the old drives to a new enclosure until you have made a backup of your new NAS to another storage medium first.
