To start, I apologize for my ignorance ahead of time. I have made several adjustments based on postings in/on this forum, and I'm still having the same problem with the Vonage VoIP.
I have Time Warner Cable, 50D/5U. Ubee router/modem is set up in bridge mode going into Asus RT-N66U.
The computer I test from is connected via Ethernet. I average 77 down, 4-1/2 to 5up, no packet loss, jitter is 3 and ping is almost always under 20.
Devices are also connected via wireless and Powerline
The Vonage (I pretty sure this is the problem) is connected to another room via Linksys / Cisco Powerline PL400's. I tried using wifi and it was much worse. I just can't run a cat5 to that room. House is 8 years old.
Vonage works fine unless someone on the network is streaming. Both Audio and Video cause issues. Torrents also wreck it. I can deal w/ a no torrent policy, but the streaming is important (office environment)
Current QoS settings.
Upload bandwidth 4. (have tried lowering this and didn't' help)
User Defined: all upload only, download left 0 percent
Highest: 80 - 100
High: 10 - 100
Medium: 5 - 100
Low: 3 - 80
Lowest: 2 - 70
ACK, SYN ICMP are checked. FIN and RST are unchecked
Rules:
Web Surf - Dest Port 80, Protocol tcp, 0-512 transferred, High
Web Surf - Dest Port 443, Protocol tcp, Transferred is blank, High
DNS, Time, NT... - Dest Port 53, 37, 123, 3..., Protocol tcp/udp, Transferred 0-10, Highest
HTTPS - Dest Port 443, Protocol tcp, Transferred 0-512, Medium
File Transfer - Dest Port 80, Protocol tcp, Transferred 512-, Medium
File Transfer - Dest Port 443, Protocol tcp, Transferred 512-, Medium
Vonage (entered in MAC)* Dest Port "Blank", Protocol any, Transferred "Blank", Highest
BitTorrent - Dest 6881:6889, Protocol tcp, transferred "Blank", Low
*I have tried both the IP and the MAC for this devise. When disconnecting, the Powerline is not touched. The ethernet and power of the Vonage is disconnected. Both the IP and MAC stay the same after several disconnects. I'm "assuming" the router assigns these.
Other info: We do not have a business class Static IP. Looking into that, but very costly.
We previously had Verizon VoIP running on Verizon DSL. Did not work very well. Then had ATT Uverse w/ Vonage and did not run well. Both setups had the Vonage plugged directly into those routers, no powerline. Due to a problem w/ the Cable line in the wall, we could not install the cable in the office that has the VoIP.
The current set-up works great for everything but the VoIP.
I do have the QoS "on." But while troubleshooting, I notice NO difference w/ QoS on or off.
Thanks in advance for help/suggestions.
