Nest Labs announced three updates to its product line yesterday, including the introduction of a new outdoor camera, a redesigned app and an update for their subscription service.

The Nest Cam Outdoor is a 1080p network camera housed in a weatherproof housing designed for permanent placement outside the home. It has a 130° view and includes night vision thanks to eight built-in infrared LEDs. Setting up the camera, according to Nest’s announcement, is a simple and quick plug-in process that’s easy to do, and with its magnetic base, customers get more options for camera placement.

Nest Cam Outdoor also has a Talk and Listen feature that lets you converse with visitors at your door and uses a secure connection utilizing a 2048-bit RSA key with 128-bit SSL encrypted channel.

Aside from a new full-screen width design, Nest App will get Spaces, a feature that groups Nest products based on the room they’re in. Spaces will work across multiple platforms and is meant to simplify access and control.

The Nest App will also get private camera sharing that lets customers share a stream with other people, an auto bandwidth feature that adjusts your stream based on the amount of bandwidth available, and added support for iWatch. Dropcam owners will also benefit as the updated app adds 1080p viewing for their older products.

Lastly, subscribers to the Nest Aware service will get person alerts, a Google-based feature that intelligently knows if a viewed object is a person or not. Once in view, Nest Aware will send an alert, letting Nest Cam and Drop Cam owning subscribers know that someone is there.

Nest Cam Outdoor can be pre-ordered at nest.com and Best Buy for a retail price of $199. The Nest Aware subscription service, also available from nest.com, is available for either a $10 or $30 monthly fee. The new, fifth generation, Nest App for iOS and Android will be available later this month.
