1.2Wire Modem Wireless Gateway Model 2701-HG-B supplied by ISP ATT
2.Linksys E4200

DSL Service

ATT DSL Elite 6.0mbps

Network Setup

One Ethernet Cable goes from the Linksys Router WAN Port to a Lan Port on the 2Wire Modem/Router Combo then a Second cable goes from the second lan port of the 2wire to the fourth Lan port on the Linksys this allows me to see the modem interface while the 2Wire is in Bridge mode and use the remaining 2wire lan Ports for my non Gigabit Devices.

Connected To the 2Wire is the following

Denon AVR4310CI

Samsung TV

Linksys E4200

Connected to the Linksys is the following

Laptop

PS3

Xbox 360

2Wire in Bridge mode

Using Wireless through Linksys also so 2Wire Wireless is disabled because it does not support Wireless N Devices.

Issue 1: I fowarded the ports on the linksys but when I go to multiple sites it either says the ports are closed for the Xbox 360 or I get an error saying that that IP address is not a public IP address

.

Issue 2:I keeping getting knocked off of Xbox Live and Netflix On Xbox 360 is
not Usable the Movies don't even start to strream

I read that when the 2wire Modem is in Bridge Mode the firewall is completely disabled turned off.

Help

Diagram please. From your description, it sounds like you are connecting Internet from the 2Wire to both the WAN and LAN side of the E4200 at the same time. I have no idea why you would do that.

What are you trying to do with the E4200?

Here Is what I am trying to do with the Linksys

I want to use all of the features of the Linksys Wireless N Gigabit Ports and use all the ports of the 2wire Modem gateway ethernet ports for my Non Gigabit Devices.

Tim is suggesting that your 2Wire modem-router resumes routing duties. The 2Wire and Linksys routers should be connected via their LAN ports.

ok I get what you are saying

but if If I let the 2wire do the routing can I let the linksys use it's gigabit ports for my gigabit devices and use the linksys for wireless N?

I saw on the 'net that the 2-wire 2701-HG-B can be configured in bridge mode. This would allow you to use a router of your choice and have it do all the routing and DHCP functions.

@ stevech I tried putting the 2Wire into Bridge Mode and letting the Linksys handle all the work but Netflix Still Refuses to Work on the Xbox 360 and I did it the other way which is too let the 2wire Preform the work and converted the Linksys to an AP and still the same Issues I can connect to the Internet though it looks like on the Xbox 360 there is a Speed Delay any suggestions?

I got the 2Wire because the Modem ATT sends out now Overheat and I have gone through 6 Motorola Modems already and they keep Overheating on me.

ports forwarded for whatever Netflix uses?
Router's "ALG" allows for MMS which Netflix might use?

I read a rumor that AT&T has their devices blocking streams (ports?) for services that might bypass revenue they'd get from U-Verse. (U-verse is AT*T's dumb attempt to push multiple HD TV channels down an 8MHz copper pair for a few hundred ft.

I'd leave the 2-wire in bridge mode - supposedly it is transparent and would not block anything. Then all you have to contend with is your router's settings.

I got everything working I think I am going to test setup tomorrow but...

I have one issue that I cannot figure out I put the 2wire too handle dhcp Nat and firewall duties but I left the linksys for Wireless duties but I can no longer access it is there a way to access it without having too switch the ethernet cables around just in case I need to change my Wireless settings? I do not have Uverse I just have the fastest DSL Att offers.:)

I read the article how to add an AP to a Wireless Router I set everything up correctly but I cannot get to the AP which is the Linksys E4200 on a Wireless Laptop?

I did some Extensive Testing and everything is Mostly working here are the issues I am still having

Issue One:Netflix is now finally working on the Xbox 360 but a Message keeps poping up that says cannot connect to Netflix but the movie continues to play I imagine the error keeps appearing because I have not fowarded the ports but since the Linksys is now an AP with it's dhcp,Nat and firewall turned off I would have to open the ports on the 2wire right?

Issue 2:As mentioned above the other issue I am having is I can't access the Linksys Router model E4200 without connecting my PC to the first Lan port on the linksys but if I do that I can't get Internet access any Idea what the issue is here I would like to access the linksys both Wired and Wirelessly?

I have a similar setup to you albeit a little different 2wire device as I am running ATT Uverse with a Linksys WRT610N behind it for most of my routing and all of my wireless devices. I also use the 360 for Netflix etc. I used a guide to setup my gateway by googling using a router with a Uverse RG. I set this up over a year ago and it has been flawless so my memory might be a little faded on the actual setup of this.

But from memory there is no real way to put that 2wire device in bridge mode, however you are going to disable the wireless on it and I believe disable the DCHP server as well. I let my WRT do the DHCP server and placed it on a separate IP, whereas the RG uses 192.168.1.xxx I changed the Linksys from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.2.1. Also on the Linksys side I use UPnP for the Xbox and it seems to work great I have had zero issues between my Xbox or my BD player which were connected via wireless bridge to a trendnet switch. Then I figured out that the network connector on the DVR box was live and got rid of the wireless bridge all together. Before I did that though with the wireless bridge using UPnP I also had that device outside the dmz. Basically opening it up to the world.

From what I remember after i made the changes to the 2wire device and set the IP for the Linksys to a different one I power cycled the Linksys and the 2wire device picked it up automatically whereas when they were on the same address scheme it would not. I also slightly remember taking the 2wire device and opening up some ports on it I believe for the Linksys.

Do not know that much about DSL, but I did deal with the headache that is known as 2wire, took a bit of research and about a day of messing around with to find what works best for my network. Oh and on the 2wire device i only run one other device off of that and that is a linksys voip adapter for the house phones. Uverse was the best thing I did for Internet, much better than my old comcrapastic that I held onto for 10 years to long.

I solved issue number 1 Netflix works again but I still cannot access the Linksys I followed all of the instructions in the Convert wireless router into an ap but no dice what is wrong please help??

I was able to solve all my Major issues I just have some Minor Issues now.

I was able to solve all my Major issues so Netflix is working I am able to access both the 2wire and Linksys from all the PC's in the house both wired and wireless now I just have two minior issues if anybody has experience with a 2Wire gateway and could help me solve these last outstanding Minor issues I will be grateful.

Issue 1:I can rename some devices in the 2Wire Device List but not others and if I rename a laptop the name Eventually changes back to the IP Address any Ideas on how to solve this Issue?

Issue 2:My Wireless Printer can't be renamed through the 2Wire interface it will not let Me again any Ideas on how I can solve this Issue?

The printers default name is HP97575 on the Network but I want to change it to HP photosmart printer but I cannot change it through the Printers interface ethier because that name is too long so this issue might not be solvable but if anyone has a solution please let me know.

Any item you want to change the name of on the network usually is done at the device sucj as logging into it's firmware (if this is available) and re-naming it. I don't think your 2wire gateway will allow you to rename a device becuase it is only using what it is given when that device pings the gateway.

Make sense? Just like when you wanted to rename the printer but the name was to long. Just pick something shorter that makes sense to you.

Most networked items have a way of logging into them through there ip address where you can choose what they are called amongst other features on the network. Your printer might be right on printers control panel.

I have another WEP Related

I have a Nintendo DS and it does not support WPA only WEP and I was thinking of turning on My 2wire's Wireless and setting it up to use WEP so I can use the Nintendo DS on my Network but will this compromise the security of my Network?

Unless you LAN is segmented or you put the WEP traffic on a separate VLAN, yes, turning on WEP weakens your LAN security. If WEP is cracked, they're on your LAN.
