Asus has released fw .266 today , 21/12 . I am going to try it to see if the wireless drivers are updated . Something is strange by Asus download site : I just went back and this f/w was gone but I had already downloaded it so now
I will try it.

Update :

Following information abot the f/w at Asus download site :

Version 3.0.0.4.266

Description ASUS RT-AC66U Firmware Version 3.0.0.4.266
Fixed:
1. Improve the wireless connection stability.
2. Fixed some UPnP compatibility issue.
File Size
22,23 (MBytes) 2012.12.21 update

When I updated to this f/w I saw that the drivers were not updated :
09 kernel: eth0: Broadcom BCM47XX 10/100/1000 Mbps Ethernet Controller 6.30.39.31 (r341183)
Jan 1 01:00:09 kernel: PCI: Enabling device 0000:01:01.0 (0000 -> 0002)
Jan 1 01:00:09 kernel: eth1: Broadcom BCM4331 802.11 Wireless Controller 6.30.39.31 (r341183)
Jan 1 01:00:09 kernel: PCI: Enabling device 0000:02:01.0 (0000 -> 0002)
Jan 1 01:00:09 kernel: eth2: Broadcom BCM4360 802.11 Wireless Controller 6.30.39.31 (r341183)

Now I will just see how the wireless connectiion stability is working in this f/w...

When I try and access any download nothing comes up. You can select your OS but after that nothing happens.

Hi,
I just DL'd alright. Unzipped and will try later tonight.

I flashed my brand-new RT-AC66R with it tonight. Seems to work so far; I have a few quirks but as the router is new, I can't blame the firmware for it.

I'll be testing some HD media streaming tomorrow over gigabit from my server to my content streamer; meanwhile, wireless works great. I have a Buffalo WLI-TX4-AG300N wireless bridge/4-port 100TX switch on the 2GHz side (I tried it with the 5GHz side and it works but signal strength is much lower; I believe this is the Buffalo's fault, and honestly, 144Mbps at 100% strength is good enough), and 5GHz with the Intel 6300 on my ThinkPad T420 is lightning-fast.

Now I have had the f/w .266 up and running for a couple of days.
One issue I still have is the drop of signal strength on the 5 GHz band from around - 21 dBm to -30 dBm on my laptop 2 meters distance from the unit with an Asus USB-N53 connected. I have also lower connection speed on the laptop , Win 7 32-bits , show 108 , 135 or sometimes 300 Mbps.

Regarding the new Broadcom drivers not in the fw. 266

The following answer I got from Jeremy at Asus regarding the new drivers :
Yes, I am sorry Mike. I got a notice from HQ saying that the driver update for the AC66u has been delayed due to and increase in instability with the drivers. They are working on the stability issues, but went ahead and released the firmware update. Instead of causing more problems by including the drivers, they will release them in a different update.

Regards,
Jeremy

So sometime in , I hope early 2013 we will get these new drivers.
