New ASUS RT-AX56U or Refurb ASUS RT-AX58U

Quick question, should I get a NEW ASUS RT-AX56U or a RENEWED ASUS RT-AX58U? I intend the router to be used for VPN usage only and run Asuswrt-Merlin firmware. The 56u is newer and would be supported longer, but the 58u is beefier.

Neither is a great VPN choice, maybe get an AC86 on Ebay for about the same cost. The 86 is an awesome VPN machine. I just tried an AX56 and returned it because of lag that my old standby AC56 doesn't have. Nothing I tried would fix it. Since I have not seen this issue before with other models I may have had a defective unit though.

No matter what you try, Merlin firmware is an excellent choice.
