My 88u will be in today...I've searched and couldn't find a guide for setting up/config. Can someone point me in the direction, I've see posts about dfs channels or something like that? This should be a major update from my old and trusted rt-ac68u.
Thx

If you're familiar with the ASUS firmware, it should be a pretty straightforward job to get the router up and running. In my case, I simply logged in and did a very basic setup, then I downloaded the latest Merlin stable release and flashed the router with that. Once that had been done, I did a fully factory reset and then started configuring everything from scratch. Once you are happy with the way the router is working, you can backup your configuation and start on more advanced procedures if you so wish. Before you could do that, you would need to navigate to the Administration/System page and...
Format JFFS partition at next boot Yes
Enable JFFS custom scripts and configs Yes

Then reboot the router. You would also need to enable SSH (remembering to change the port from the default 22 to increase security).

There is nothing special about setting up a new router. Even an RT-AX88U. :)

See the M&M Config and the Nuclear Reset guides in the link in my signature below as well as the RT-AX88U Upgrade link too for my initial impressions of this router.

In addition to doing a full reset including an 'Initialize all settings...' to factory defaults and not re-using any previously saved backup config files, also refrain from blindly copying (even manually) any old settings you may have relied on in your old/current router.

I would recommend the RMerlin firmware be installed, of course. If you're feeling experimental, even the latest Alpha 2 firmware is very stable and offers a few new features and tweaks too. ;)

Note that even on a brand new router I would suggest you flash the firmware you want to use, do a full reset to factory defaults/Initialize all settings. Use the following URL to bypass the setup wizard and re-flash the same firmware again, followed by a final/full reset to factory defaults/Initialize all settings process. After that, continue with the M&M Config using the setup wizard to secure the router and connect to your ISP.

Code:
http://router.asus.com/Advanced_SettingBackup_Content.asp

After this setup has proven stable for you, add any options, features and/or customizations one at a time, testing extensively as you go so that nothing else breaks, until you have the network performance and usability you want and need.

HTH. :)

Awesome... I'm definitely only using merlins firmware. I'll go straight to the 16 alpha 2 firmware because your saying it's stable... Going from a dual core to a Quad-core processor is going to be insane...
