Noob cant' get DDNS to work

Tom Crable

New Around Here
I have been totally unsuccessful getting DDNS to work with my ASUS RT-AC68U wireless router. My ultimate goal is to setup AICloud so that I can use the Wake on LAN feature so I can access my Desktop computer to stream media when I am traveling out of the country. I already have the Tivo, Plex and PlayOn apps successfully accessing my desktop from either a 3g / 4g or external wireless connection from my Android Phone and laptop so I know that the external network path to my home devices exists. The only issue is that when my desktop goes to sleep, Plex and PlayOn media servers are unavailable.

I am using a Motorola Surfboard SB6141 modem connected directly to my ASUS router. I don't believe that any "bridging" should be required for that modem. I have ethernet to my desktop, TIVO box and Roku box. Mini Tivos are wired via MOCA. I am using WOW for internet and cable, all of the equipment is mine.

The settings I am using on the router are pretty vanilla so I am hoping there is just a switch I missed somewhere or another. I enabled WAN access to the router and for the time being I am just authenticating with HTTP. I set up the DDNS using the ASUS DNS and it creates and registers the DDNS URL. However I am unable to access that url from anywhere. I've also tried to use the IP address associated the the asuscomm URL and no luck there either.

I apologize in advance if this has already been addressed elsewhere. I tried to read the DDNS and AICloud posts here and also checked the ASUS corporate forums but didn't find anything that works.

Thanks

Did you verify that IP address that DDNS entry is giving you is a public IP address and not a private network address?

Sorry for the slow reply. I didn't have the notification set up properly. I've tried every IP address associated with the router. I think I am just going to reset everything back to factory settings and start from scratch.
