OpenVPN Certificates requiring user/pass marked as External Certificate

Any reason why all certificates that I generate with the option of requiring a username and password are marked as requiring an external certificate? If I use a standard setup where no username/password a standard profile certificate is created.

I appreciate any help on this.

Thanks!

This is for running an OpenVPN server on your router? And when you say "all certificates that I generate", do you mean the certificates that the OpenVPN server generates and which can be seen in the Advanced tab, or are you manually gnerating them yourself?

And possibly someone may well ask which model of router you are using.

- I am using a RT-N66 with Merlin 378.55
- This is for OpenVPN server on my router
- This is with respect to the opvn files that can be generated through the OpenVPN Server tab by hitting the export button

This only happens if the option "Username/Password Authentication" is selected under the advanced details.

I also use username/passwords but I haven't come across reference to external certificates. Without compromising security, could you attach a screenshot of your vpn advanced settings as well as one showing the requirement for the external certificate?
