Own WNDR3700. Looking for smth better in terms of range. No need of 5 Ghz or USB

New Around Here
I have a relatively small apartment, but with lots of walls. Like 5 walls from the router till my Unibody MacBook Pro 17".
I've got fancy WNDR3700 (02R3) today, and, unfortunately, I must state that it performs just a bit better than my old Belkin Wireless G Router F5D7230-4.
Well, I installed latests DD-WRT beta with unconvincing improvements. Even if I'm 3 meters away I'm getting _at the best_ 60% Signal Quality (or 65—70 dB according to Meraki WiFi Stumbler, whatever it means). Usually it's about 50%. In dead zones it drops to 5—8% (and a performance accordingly).
My current settings are:
ath0 (2.4 GHz)
Mode - AP
Network - NG-Mixed
Channel - 5 (2432 MHz) (I'm the only one, who's using it in my apartment block)
TX Power - 26 dBm (increased from 20)

ath1 is disabled.

So, maybe there are some alternatives without a bunch of features, but with a really strong signal and superior antennas?
My wireless gadgets are 2 laptops (N-Mac, G-PC), 2 G-smartphones and N-Airport Express for audio transmission.
I don't making any backups wirelessly. I don't use video-streaming to home theater or smth. I don't play online games.

Since this is a small apartment, I would prefer not to use repeaters/extenders. I really hope there is one device for my needs.

Thanks in advance!
