New Around Here
Hello, I am in need of a proficient IT and networking expert, preferably with experience in Asus systems, to assist me in optimizing and restructuring my current network setup.

I have two internet connections at my disposal: a hardwired connection with a speed of 50mbps and satisfactory latency, and a 5G connection with a speed of 350mbps but with latency issues and occasional DNS problems obstructing access to certain websites.

I am seeking assistance in fine-tuning these connections to perform at their peak. The project will also involve integrating both the 5G and hardwired connections into a single router (creating one WiFi network) and developing specific subnets for designated tasks.

To illustrate, I want my Dropbox and regular downloads on the 5G subnet to take advantage of its higher speed, while my video conference and Zoom calls should utilize the hardwired connection due to its better latency. Additional subnets for smart home devices among other tasks will also be needed. I value your expertise and time, hence I am prepared to compensate for your services.

Thank you,

Will

Welcome to the forums @fwm333.

No need for compensation for what you're asking.

Give us the specifics/details of your network and current hardware so that suggestions can begin.

Hey There,

Ok for sure thanks.

As mentioned before I have a hardwired and 5g connection. Currently for simplicity I have removed the 5g connection and am just using the hardwired.

Currently only the hardwired connection feeds into an ASUS RT-AC86U (eventually the 5g connection will too). The ASUS RT-AC86U then goes into a Cisco SG300-28PP which then transmits around the building via CAT network ports. There are then two mesh routers in two different rooms to improve signal strength.

This seems to work well but the main elements we need help with are: subnetting and allocating priorities for different services as per my previous post.

Thanks

Will

ASUS RT-AC86U

This is the most unreliable Asus router with common hardware issues and unresolved software issues. You may or may not be affected by any yet, but I usually recommend replacement. Asuswrt also has known issues with Dual WAN and it may or may not work well for you. I usually recommend replacement with business class router. Call a local computer/networking business and tell them what your requirements are. They will give you options and provide the proper equipment for multi-WAN and VLAN network segmentation. You still have to pay for what you want, but not here and it's not happening with this Asus router and two "mesh" routers. A specialist can't add non-existing features in home routers. If you want to play with custom firmware and scripts - you need to have the knowledge to do so. I wouldn't waste time with this specific router model though.
